Have you heard of the 5 Love Languages?

Understanding ours has made a huge positive impact on our marriage.
Basically there are five ways to express and experience love.

We tend to love in our own love language however it is usually the case that our partner's love language is different to ours so while we think we are expressing our love for them, they aren't feeling it and sometimes can even be annoyed by our attempts.

For example my love languages are physical touch and quality time and Bruce's are words of praise and acts of service.

These are soooo different from each other so while he is expressing his love for me by telling me how wonderful I am and doing jobs around the house for me I am just getting annoyed wishing he would organise for us to go for drives or walks and hold my hand and give me lots of cuddles. Worse still he gets irritated by being touched which is my way of showing love!

So you can see that once we can recognise our own and our partners love language we have a better insight into showing our love for each other.

This also applies to our children and can be really helpful especially when dealing with teenagers....

You can find out your love language by going to the 5 love languages website and answering some questions.

If you do, it I'd love to know if you find it accurate for you.

...because great health is so much more than what you eat and how you move.
